STORY
ACT I
Carla’s Controlled Life
CARLA KING is a sharp, capable sales executive in her late 30s who has perfected emotional avoidance.
After losing her husband unexpectedly several years earlier, Carla has devoted herself entirely to work, routine, and raising her daughter. Her life is stable, productive, and emotionally closed off.
She doesn’t date.
She doesn’t risk.
She survives.
At work, Carla is assigned a major project tied to a high-profile karaoke-centered promotional campaign. The campaign has enormous financial implications for her company and could finally position her for the promotion she has worked years to achieve.
To better understand the culture surrounding the campaign, Carla reluctantly enters the world of karaoke apps and livestream singing communities.
What begins as research slowly becomes something else.
Discovering the Karaoke World
Carla enters a vibrant global community where strangers connect through music.
Night after night, she witnesses:
- emotional duets between people on opposite sides of the world,
- friendships formed through shared songs,
- and individuals expressing truths they struggle to communicate in real life.
The world surprises her.
It’s funny. Chaotic. Diverse. Honest.
Most importantly—it makes her feel something again.
Her outspoken best friend, NIKKI, immediately embraces the fun and pushes Carla deeper into the experience. Nikki becomes both comic relief and emotional catalyst, encouraging Carla to stop hiding behind work and begin living again.
Through the app, Carla encounters two very different men.
Sterling
STERLING is charismatic, polished, wealthy, and magnetic—a successful studio executive who understands how to make people feel special.
He immediately recognizes Carla’s intelligence and talent.
Sterling offers her attention, access, and opportunity. He presents himself as a man who can elevate her personally and professionally. Their flirtation grows quickly, fueled by music, ambition, and emotional chemistry.
But Sterling carefully adapts himself depending on who he speaks to. He is always performing.
Kenji
KENJI is the opposite.
Quiet, grounded, technically gifted, and emotionally sincere, Kenji works behind the scenes as a technician connected to the karaoke community. Unlike Sterling, Kenji never tries to impress Carla.
He simply sees her.
Their connection develops slowly through conversation, humor, shared musical moments, and emotional honesty.
At first, Carla barely notices what is happening between them.

ACT II
Carla Begins to Open Up
As Carla immerses herself further into the karaoke community, her emotional walls begin to crack.
Music becomes her emotional outlet.

Sterling grows more controlling and manipulative beneath his polished exterior.

For the first time in years, she chooses not to retreat emotionally.
Instead of collapsing back into isolation, Carla finally embraces honesty—with herself and others.
Carla Chooses Life
In the aftermath, Carla reflects on the emotional prison she has created around herself since her husband’s death.
She realizes her greatest fear was never losing love again.
It was risking vulnerability.
Kenji arrives not as a savior, but as someone willing to meet her honestly.
Unlike Sterling, Kenji never tried to sell Carla a fantasy.
